Beauty | Fake Tan Tips

Whenever the sun makes an appearance, I don’t know about you, but I just wish I had a permanent tan. Thank god for fake tan, eh! Being bronzed, whether it be real or fake, honestly makes me feel and look 100% more confident and comfortable. So, with the weather being so nice recently, and having started fake tanning again, I thought I would share some of my favourite fake tans and tanning tips with you.

I’ll start off by sharing some of my favourites. Now, I’m not going to lie but my all-time favourite tan is actually Superdrug’s own make; Solait. The one that I use is the medium/dark mousse tan, this is honestly so easy to apply and no matter how badly you may think you’ve applied it, it doesn’t rinse off streaky. However, if you like to splash your cash, then the Bondi Sands Tanning Mousse in Dark is perfect.

My second favourite tan was the Garnier Summer Body Milk, but it turns out that I’m now allergic to it, so to replace this I found the Bondi Sands Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk. This gives you such a natural glowing tan and it also smells amazing which is a bonus.

Moving on to a few tips…

1.     Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!!!
I cannot stress this enough. I normally do this the day before I’m about to fake tan, as it helps to get rid of any dry patches, meaning that your tan will go on smoother and look a lot more natural and less patchy.

2.     Moisturise
Again, I tend to do this the night before I apply my tan, as it just helps to soften your skin, making application a whole lot easier. I also moisturise after I've wash the layer of tan off as I find this helps make it last longer and leave your skin smoother.

3.     Use a mitt!
As obvious as it sounds, make sure you use a tanning mitt when you’re applying your tan, otherwise you’ll end up having orange hands, which you deffo don’t want, and it means you're less likely to become streaky.

4.     Tan your whole body
I know some people only want the parts of their body that will be on show to be tanned, but it is a lot more effective and practical to tan your whole body. This way you won’t end up with white and brown patches, and it also means that you’re not restricting yourself to certain items of clothing as you only tanned your arms or just your legs etc.

5.     Apply Vaseline to your eyebrows and hairline
As weird as it may sound, to stop your eyebrows and hairline turning that awkward orangey tone, apply some Vaseline to these areas and you’ll find that your tan will come out looking flawless.

That’s all the steps that I take when fake tanning and I hope you enjoyed the post and found some of it useful.

Until next time,

Nadia

Beauty | Drugstore Haul

Sorry for being M.I.A. recently, I’ve been quite busy, but I’m back now! Today we’re getting back on schedule with a drugstore haul. Now, these are just a few bits that I needed to grab on my most recent shopping trip. However, the products are mainly skincare and haircare, as opposed to makeup related bits. With that little disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into it.

So, I recently dyed my hair, nothing major, but I added a few highlights and lowlights (I used the L'Oréal Préférence Glam Bronde in 03 and 04) and knowing my luck, it didn’t turn out quite as I’d hoped. At first it looked rusty and very warm-toned, but after talking to a friend, she recommended that I used purple shampoo. So I did, and oh my god, it’s worked miracles. I picked up the Charles Worthington Colour Enhancer Violet Toning shampoo and conditioner from Boots, and because these were 3 for 2, I also grabbed the Charles Worthington Colour Revive Mousse Violet Toning. When I first tried this out, I wasn’t too sure of what to expect, but I really wasn’t expecting my whole shower to turn purple. Yes, I know it’s in the name; purple shampoo/conditioner, but I have very little common sense and this came as a surprise to me, lol.

From Boots

While in Boots, I was in desperate need of some moisturiser, nothing fancy, so I picked up my all-time favourite one, which is the Garnier Intensive 7 Days Lotion in mango. This stuff honestly works wonders. Recently my skin has been so dry and just not very nice, but having been applying this after the shower, my skin is starting to look and feel like normal again, plus it smells amazing.

On to something slightly more fun, interesting, and makeup related. When I was in Superdrug I went to the false eyelashe section and picked up three fabulous pairs of lashes. Now, so far I’ve only been able to test out one pair, and I already think they’re my favourite lashes I’ve tried. Yes, they’re even better than Ardells’ Demi Wispies… The night I tried these I was slightly drunk and I managed to get them on in one take, something that I normally struggle with when I’m sober. This pair was the Eylure Rosie Bea "Heyday" lashes, this style of lash fans out more towards the end of the eye, meaning that the lashes aren’t all the same length along the whole lid, this helps create a more natural look but still creates definition. The second pair of lashes I picked up are also a part of the same Rosie Bea range, but I got them in "Frolic". This pair is also slightly fanned, however, the length is a lot longer than the previous pair. Lastly, I picked up a pair of Kiss lashes in "Iconic". I’ve only ever tried one other pair of Kiss lashes, and I was impressed. Despite having to cut the lashes to fit my eye, the overall effect was very natural looking, which I love. I’m yet to try these but I don’t think I’ll be disappointed.

That’s everything I picked up at the drugstore, and I hoped you enjoyed the post. Again, I do apologise for slacking recently, but I have a few more exciting posts coming soon!

Event | Cosmo Self Made Summit

What more could you possibly imagine being better than complimentary manicures, hairstyling, HD brows, makeovers and drinks?! Oh wait, I know, being in the same room as, not only your favourite magazines editor; Farrah Storr (for those of you who don’t know who this is, Farrah is the current editor-in-chief for Cosmo UK), but also some of the biggest influencers, successors and self-made businessmen and women today.

Yesterday, I attended Cosmopolitan’s Self Made Summit, which was held in County Hall, located just along Southbank. I had never heard of this place before, let alone stepped foot in such a wonderfully put together venue. There were spotlights all around the building, in the colour pink of course, and everything looked aesthetically pleasing and fabulously chic.

Upon arriving at 9:30am, my friend and I collected our timetables and made our way to our first talk of the day: Farrah Storr in conversation with the incredible Olivia Palermo. Never have I met someone as modest, talented and kind-hearted as Olivia, she is a prime example of a girlboss. Not only is she a model, a blogger, and former reality star, just to name a few, but she has also been working with Banana Republic on their latest seasons clothing line.

Shortly after, my friend and I got separated as we had each chosen different talks, my next stop was “From Blog to Brand”. Here I got to meet, get advice, and tips from Fleur Bell, known to many of us as ‘Fleur De Force’, Rosie Fortescue, Sam Chapman, and Sedge Beswick. During this talk these four powerful females enlightened many of us that with success comes hard work, as many of us already know. However, with today’s generation growing up so heavily influenced by social media, a lot of us expect fame and fortune to find us overnight. But there’s much more to life than having a certain amount of followings on your social media accounts, after all it is just a number on a screen.

This leads me on to the next talk I attended; ‘Flourish After Failure’. This talk was truly eye-opening. I know many of you have probably already heard the phrase, “you must fail before you succeed”, however, not many of us realise how true this is. Here I heard Charlotte Knight; founder and creative director of Ciaté London, Jessica Knappett; Drifters writer and actress, and lastly Lisa Hilton; Author and Historian, talk to us about their lowest lows and how this developed and shaped them into the person they are today and what they learned from their failures. Although each of their struggles were different, all three women learned that the value of persistence, determination, and self-belief became more valuable after each of them had failed. One key thing that I took away from this talk, was that no matter how hard something may seem at the time, or if it feels that everything is against you, there is always a silver lining and your struggles will only make you wiser and stronger.

Half way through the day, and we were off to another talk with Farrah Storr, but this time it was with Katherine Ryan. Now, I’m not going to lie to you, I had no idea who this was, but after this talk, I loved her! She is hilarious and completely open and honest about her life, which I love and respect. Once this talk had finished, my friend and I were reunited and we decided to make the most of our day. We both got a cocktail, which tasted amazing, and I later got my hair styled by Headmasters and a manicure complimentary of Jade Angel.

With the day coming to an end, we had made our way to our final talk; Alfie Deyes in conversation with Caroline Flack. Being honest, I wasn’t too fussed about this talk, I mean, I’m not really a huge fan of either of Alfie nor Caroline. However, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, and how humble and down-to-earth Alfie Deyes really is. It really is inspirational seeing someone from your hometown making a career out of something that just started off as a hobby.

This day was by far one of the best days I’ve experienced. Being able to meet and hear from the successors themselves and realising that at the end of the day they are in fact just like you and I, and to top everything off, we received an incredible goodie-bag from Cosmo themselves!

Until next time,

Nadia
