My First Time: Flying Solo

At 19 years of age, I finally ventured off on my first solo adventure to a different country. Although this trip was only a short haul flight; from London to Glasgow, it was definitely filled with a few bumps along the way.

So what did I think about traveling alone? It was definitely a lot quieter, that's for sure! But I also enjoyed it. I'm quite an independent person but this experience has enabled me to become more self-reliant and organised. However, the waiting around did become a bit tedious, as classic me had used up all of my 3G and the airport Wi-Fi was only free for an hour, so I was sitting around waiting like a lemon for the majority of the time. Although, for once, I had come prepared and brought along my book and had downloaded my music on Spotify so I didn’t need really any internet, it’s not like people were blowing up my phone either, clearly not very popular .

Landing in Glasgow was straightforward as I didn’t have any luggage to collect and my cousin and aunty were already waiting for me. So, it’s safe to say that the outwards journey was a walk in the park.

After spending the weekend getting some final bits for our bridesmaid’s outfits and of course the dress fitting, it was now the Sunday, and I was due to fly home. This didn’t go quite as planned. Originally, I would catch my 21:00 flight from Glasgow, get home, go to bed, and go to work in the morning. But of course, nothing for me is ever that simple.

My flight gets cancelled. Not only this, but the alternative flight that was provided by EasyJet for free then sold out, meaning I was technically stuck in Scotland… Thankfully, my uncle managed to find me a flight with British Airways for the following morning but this was an extortionate price and it still meant that I wouldn’t make work, but at least I would be home.

The flight back was, again, fairly straightforward. Basically the same as the way there, apart from the fact that BA were playing operatic music as everyone boarded the plane, I suppose there’s a first time for everything.

I actually managed to make it back in one piece, with all of my belongings, who would’ve thought! Not going to lie, but I’m slightly dreading flying to America on my own now…

Until next time,

Nadia

Review | The Toy Shop

Recently, the sun has been shining and the temperatures have been rising, and this can only mean one thing… COCKTAILS!! On one of these hot and sunny days, me and my friend decided to take a walk into Putney to find a pair of shoes for her. However, this resulted in us going to The Toy Shop. For those of you who aren’t too sure as to what this is, no it’s not actually a toy shop, it’s a bar in Putney that does crazy cocktails surrounding the theme of sweets and all things fun.

Although this was an unexpected visit, we definitely went on the right day, Thursday: 2-4-1 cocktails all night. Now, is that fate or what!

The first drink me and my friend decided to try was the ‘Zombie’. On the menu it only allows you to have two of these per person, and reading that, it led me and my friend to believe that it was going to be some intense drink that would get us smashed after one taste (slight exaggeration). Did we feel drunk after this? Nope. But despite that, it tasted amazing, it was honestly just like drinking fruit juice.

The second drink we had was called Moopy’s Milk Bottle, and this was also really good. But it’s slightly harder to describe what it tasted like… As gross as this may sound, it kind of tasted like a raspberry flavoured milk, but watered down. Gross I know, but it tasted better than it sounds, plus the fact that I’m not the best at describing things, lol.

Although these were the only drinks we had, and after being chatted up by a very drunken older man, I would 100% go back to The Toy Shop, and I would definitely recommend it!

Until next time,

Nadia

Uni | Finishing First Year

The time has come; my first year at university is over. All assignments have been submitted, all exams complete, meaning I won’t have to return to the lovely campus that is the University of Roehampton until September, with the odd occasion in-between for university events. Other than that, I am done, complete, finished!

It’s safe to say that this past year has flown by. I know everyone tells you that to begin with; that your time at university will be over before you know it, but quite honestly I wasn’t expecting it to go by that fast. A part of me is gutted that I won’t be able to see my flatmates every day, but in return, I’ll be back home with my family. Since being at uni, I've honestly met some of my now closest friends, as well as memories that I certainly won’t forget, like breaking my arm (lol), going on tour, Frigby, and of course weekly Fez nights out. I just hope second year will be just as good, minus the injuries.

I do have a few things to look forward to for second year, like living with familiar faces, being with everyone again, and of course, study abroad!! From January to May I'll be in North Carolina continuing my studies and I honestly cannot wait, but the 8 hour flight there can, safe to say I don't travel well.

Until next time,

Nadia

Confessions of A Shopaholic

Being a student isn’t a walk in the park, you know. I mean, when our student loans drop, do you know how hard it is not to go and buy everything nice you see? It’s very hard. The amount of times I’ve been tempted to buy myself a new phone, or treat myself to a spa day, and of course a holiday, the temptation is real, but I manage to talk myself out of buying any of them things. It’s the clothes, bags, shoes, sunglasses, the list goes on, that always get me.  I’m the type of girl that will spend all of her money on clothes, and if you were to put me in a room full of handbag, sunglasses, and shoes, it’s safe to say you’d never see me again.

So, having just received my student loan a few weeks ago, what better way to end first year than with a shopping trip. I can already hear my mum moaning in my ear telling me how I should be saving for more important things, but I just can’t help it.

The first purchase from my-oh-so generous student loan, was a denim jacket. These are everywhere at the moment, and everyone that I’ve seen wearing them either has an oversized one, or one covered in rips, especially on the back. So, when I saw this one I knew I wanted it. It was still oversized, but instead of rips, it has studs and roses on the shoulder and on the back. Believe it or not but this beauty is from Primark!!
Primark - £35
My second stop was in the recently refurbished Zara at Shepard’s Bush. Oh my god. It’s heaven. Despite this being the biggest Zara now, I only managed to find one thing that I ended up buying.

Zara - £15.99

Next up we have jewellery. Now, when it comes to jewellery the only metal that I tend to wear is silver, and my earrings and rings are what I wear on a daily basis. However, I’ve always wanted a necklace that I can wear and not worry about it not going with an outfit. So, when my friend and I were in Topshop, I went over to the Little Smith counter and decided to get myself a personalised necklace, because why the hell not.

Little Smith - £25
Also from Topshop, on a previous trip, I found myself in the shoe department. This was mainly because the shoes that I had on that day were KILLING my feet, and that was when I found these. Now, I have always liked sliders but it wasn’t something I was desperate to get. Until I saw these, that is. These aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I feel like they are a major makeover from the plain rubber sliders that are just everywhere.

That my friends, brings my little shopping spree to an end.

Until next time,

Nadia
